230 – Xray confirms there is a skull

The X-ray head shows that the skull is looking fine. You realise this was the wrong method of visualizing a brain bleed and immediately order a head CT.

The patient was put through unnecessary radiation so you promptly go and apologise and accompany her to her CT scan.

What do you expect to see on the CT head that would confirm your diagnosis of an extradural haemorrhage?

Convex shaped haematoma

Crescent shaped haematoma

Blood in the CSF spaces
